Ancient Voices - Future Vision
Bunny Swan Cultural Presentations
Bunny Swan is a visual artist, storyteller, singer and songwriter. Her program shows how instruction in the arts of the Dena'ina Athabascan people contributes to the study of culture and reinforces general education objectives.
Alaska Native cultural survival depends on the individual capacity for learning and transmitting knowledge to succeeding generations. Cultural factors discussed include environment, heritage, ancestors, social structures, architecture, customs, ceremonies, beliefs and the function of art work in society. Swan demonstrates how the visual, literary and performing arts teach children and adults about Alaska Native culture.
Bunny’s program features her original music inspired by ancient stories, told to her by tribal elders, as well as hands on creativity utilizing many of our natural resources, tree bark, roots, hide, antler, beads, feathers, and the lessons of our environment can teach us.
